Members of a family of large marine stalk-eyed ten-footed long-tailed crustacean having a first pair of feet that are very large and form the characteristic claws (chelae), a rigid segmented exoskeleton, compound eyes on movable stalks, two pairs of long antennae, and a flipper-like muscular tail that is used for swimming by propelling the animal backward. Members of other families of crustaceans may have the word "lobster" in their common name.…
