Sabine

Ancient Italic tribe located in the mountainous country east of the Tiber River. The Sabines probably spoke Oscan. They received Roman citizenship in the 3rd century BCE. It is believed they were of the same heritage as the Samnites, warlike tribes inhabiting the mountainous center of southern Italy.
