Genus containing around 10 species of tall , deciduous ornamental and timber trees having furrowed bark and lance-shaped leaves; native to temperate regions of native to temperate zones in the North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Some species produce a light reddish brown wood used for construction and other purposes, and also extracts producing a vegetable dye.
