opus tessellatum
Nota de aplicación
Standard mosaic process and technique using small cubes of uniform size known as tesserae, made of hard materials such as stone and glass, applied to a ground to form ornamental patterns and pictures. While opus tessellatum was initially a cheap substitute for finer mosaic work executed in the more complex technique of "opus vermiculatum," it eventually became the dominant technique and remained so throughout the Middle Ages.
