fêtes galantes
Nota de aplicación
Category of paintings derived from a description by the French Academy in 1717 of Antoine Watteau's variations of the "fête champêtre" genre. Fête champêtre ("rural festival") paintings portray costumed figures in an idealized, poetic setting, while fête galante ("courtship party") paintings are usually small in scale, and show groups of aristocratic men and women in pastoral settings engaged in amorous play.
