passing bells
Nota de aplicación
Special bells reserved for the death knell, which in monasteries and Christian settlements was rung originally to announce that a member of the community was dying. Later it was used to announce a death and solicit prayers for the soul. In some traditions, the tone of the ringing could be varied to distinguish between the death of an adult or child, and the number of strikes was used to indicate if the person was male or female.
