Process or technique of using individually shaped stones of varying colors used to make a composition, often but not always low-relief rather than flat. Often used for small objects, such as focal pieces in a piece of jewelry. Although usage may overlap, for the process used to make larger works, such as table tops, from shaped stones, prefer "pietra dura (process)."
