Extinct order of reptiles characterized by triradiate pelvis with the inferior pelvic elements directed downwards, a subnarial foramen, some reduction in digits, forelimbs that are usually distinctly shorter than hind limbs, and three to seven sacral vertebrae. Includes all theropod carnivorous dinosaurs and one of the two great lineages of herbivorous dinosaurs. Dating from the Upper Triassic to Upper Cretaceous, after which all non-avian saurischians became extinct.
