Members of a genus containing two species of of tree-dwelling mammals noted for slowness of movement and native to the lowland tropical forests of South and Central America, differing from three-toed sloths in that they are smaller, move somewhat slower, and spend most of their time hanging upside down from branches rather than sitting in trees.
