Plane tree native from southeastern Europe to India, known for its longevity and spreading crown. It has been known in cultivation in other areas from ancient times. It reaches 30 m (100 feet) in height, and has huge, often squat boles, some measuring nearly 10 m in circumference (3 m in diameter). Its bristly seedballs hang in clusters of two to six.
