Genus of rattan palms native mainly to the tropics and subtropics of southeastern Asia. The stems are harvest for their cores, which is used for canes and furniture. The fruits of certain species produce a red resin that is one source for "dragon's blood," used for medicine and varnish. The seeds of some species are harvested for the production of Buddhist prayer beads.
