The styles and cultures of various indigenous tribal populations located within the Indian subcontinent and retaining their ancient African/Austric languages, generally limited to those whose ancestral presence in the area precedes the Dravidian settlement of ca. 2000 BCE and various Aryan (Indo-European) invasions ca. 1500 BCE. In the constitution of India, in 1950 most of these groups were listed as Scheduled Tribes, targeted for social and economic development; used as the general term for the Indian scheduled tribes, who are usually descendents of these people.
