Christian feast day celebrating the 4th-century Nicholas of Myra, a bishop and saint from Roman Asia Minor. In the western church, his feast is celebrated on December 6, coinciding with the first days of the Christmas season, which begins with Advent. In some traditions, gifts are given to children on the eve of the Saint Nicholas' Day.
