Species of giant tussock-forming grass grass native to the Pampas and Patagonia of South America, but grown in Europe, North America, Australia, and elsewhere as a lawn ornamental and for dried flower arrangements. Grows up to 3 m (10 feet) in height; female plants bear silvery, plumelike flower clusters reaching 30 to 90 cm (1 to 3 feet) in height.
