Languages that were consciously devised for communication, with invented phonology, grammar, and vocabulary, as contrasted to languages that developed naturally. Constructed languages are typically characterized by being artificial, but possessing a literature and designed for the purpose of human communication. Specifically excluded are reconstructed languages and computer programming languages.
